Mammas Pizza Review

In a city full of restaurants, especially Italian restaurants it is easy to find a great thin crust Italian pizza, but what about American style pizza? Well really there is only one place to go, and that is Mamma’s Pizza! Located in the Grassmarket, not far from the Vie Amhor HQ this pizza restaurant is an institution in the city having being in business for 25 years.

Style and Atmosphere

Mamma’s is laid back and friendly, it doesn’t take itself too seriously, the music is relaxed, (when we were in they were playing Bob Marley) and the staff are super friendly. This is the type of place you would go with a family or a group before a night on the town.  If you are here during the festival in the summer then you can also eat outside.

Food and Drink

Mamma’s is all about the food! There are only 4 starter options; we had soup (£4.00) and garlic bread (£3.50) which was really delicious. However, the main coursess are quite big so you could probably skip starters and still be full up.

The mains section on the menu is quite extensive offering gourmet burgers, salads, pasta based dishes but I’d guess that 8 of 10 people come here for the pizza. The pizza section is simple yet extensive; choose what size base you’d like (9″ 12″ 14″ 16″) and then add your toppings. Toppings are split into fruit and veg, meat, seafood and cheese in total there are over 40 toppings so there’s a topping to suit everyone. Another bonus is that all their pizzas are available as a gluten free option too!

Top tip: the pizzas are big – so don’t follow our mistake and order an extra large for two people. It really is extra large and would feed 4 people easily.

How Do I Rate It?

Do we recommend this restaurant? Absolutely yes! It’s fantastic for pizza and handy location for all the bars in the Grassmarket, good prices and friendly staff. 10 out of 10.
