Bank Holiday Weekend Ideas – May 2013

With the May bank holiday weekends fast approaching our team at VieAmhor Edinburgh Apartments thought it would be a good idea to come up with a few little ideas for our different groups coming to stay with us.

VieAmhor Edinburgh Apartments - Edinburgh Castle in Spring

For our families staying in any or our Royal Mile Apartments like our  Royal Mile Duplex or our smaller Victoria Terrace Edinburgh Apartment they have the enviable, ideal location right next to Edinburgh Castle so after breakfast in your VieAmhor Edinburgh Apartment it’s ideal to take a short stroll over to Edinburgh Castle when it opens at 9.30am. At that time of day there are no large crowds so you can see the Scottish Crown Jewels and Stone of Destiny. On a clear day the views over Edinburgh are spectacular and you can see as far as Fife and the borders.

Afterwards you can take a walk down Edinburgh’s Royal Mile and take part in one of the many historic tours in and around all the narrow closes steeped in history and tales of times gone by. The Royal Mile has some fantastic places to eat lunch from well know eateries like award winning Montieths, Angels with Bagpipes and for some fantastic haggis you cant beat the Royal McGregor Bar, an authentic old Edinburgh boozer.

After lunch I am sure you will be too full to do a lot of walking so why not jump aboard one of Edinburgh’s open-top tour buses where the knowledgeable guides will give you their personal view of Edinburgh. You can jump on and off at places like The Palace of Holyrood and the National Galleries. On the way back the bus tours virtually stop right outside Royal Mile VieAmhor Edinburgh Apartments.

In the evening you will be spoilt for choice with restaurants and many of the bars on the Royal Mile come alive with live music which will entertain you whilst you sample one of Scotland’s Malt Whisky’s – Whiskie Bar is one my favourites, nominated Whisky Bar of the year in 2011. I am sure that is more than enough for the first day but how about going a bit further afield the following day?

For our large groups staying in our luxury VieAmhor Edinburgh Townhouse group accommodation we suggest a short taxi ride down to Ocean Terminal to board The Royal Yacht Britannia which is now permanently docked in Leith alongside Ocean Terminal shopping centre with some fabulous unique shops like Edinburgh’s very own Ness fashion retailer for some quirky tartan ideas.

After spending last night in the Old Town we suggest you get dressed up and head out to the very trendy George Street where once again there is something for everyone.

Tiger Lily is very popular with our large groups staying in our luxury VieAmhor Edinburgh Townhouse group accommodation. Our more intimate groups staying in Royal Mile VieAmhor Edinburgh Apartmentsj may like to dine in Edinburgh’s famous Dome Bar one of the most beautiful buildings on George Street.

If you are here for a few days why not consider a day trip to Loch Lomond, Loch Ness or the Whisky tour. We work with Highland Explorers based on the Royal Mile who provide great day tours for only £39 per person.
